A round glass bead is made on a burner from rough glass in the form of carefully selected single-coloured rods. It may seem easy but some artefacts take dozens of minutes to make due to the physical properties of glass. Hana Sebkova uses only Czech glass from local manufacturers, namely the glass factory in Desna, which offers many colours and shades. She manufactures original round beads by melting the glass rods on a burner at 1300°C and spinning the molten glass on flame-proof steel rods covered in kaolin. She needs good sight, steady hands and quick and exact decisions to make the bead. While she’s still turning the rod, the bead becomes round and must be kept aligned so that the opening stays exactly in the middle. She does the ornamentation with molten coloured glass to achieve the planned design. Hana Sebkova creates original jewellery from round beads. She will be glad to show you how they are made.
